PayCollect reads every payment into your paybill, till, bank account or cash box, and works out which unit it belongs to — from the phone number, the name, or whatever the tenant typed in the reference.
What people type · What it means
A statement with forty lines on it. Some have a unit number. Some say “rent”. Some say nothing at all. One is from a tenant’s wife, on a number nobody recognises. You cross-check them against a book, send a few reminders to people who already paid, and hope you got it right.
It works at ten units. At forty it takes a morning. At a hundred, something is always wrong.
Safaricom tells us the moment someone pays your paybill or till. Cash and bank transfers get typed in once.
Phone number, name, unit code, the amount owed. Most payments settle themselves against the right unit and the right bill.
Anything genuinely ambiguous waits in one short list, with the reasons for each suggestion. One tap decides it — and it remembers.
Two tenants called John Mwangi, both owing 8,000, one payment with no reference. Most systems pick one. That sends a demand letter to somebody who already paid, and credits the money to a stranger.
PayCollect stops. A name and an amount can never settle it on their own — it needs a phone number, a unit code, or something it learned from you before.
And it learns
First month
A payment arrives from a number nobody knows. You tap the right unit once.
Every month after
That number goes straight to that unit. You are never asked again.
The list gets shorter the longer you use it. That is the whole idea.
Tenants keep paying the same number they always have. Money goes to your Safaricom account, not ours — we never hold a shilling of it. Nothing to tell your tenants, nothing to change.
